Jeep parent company Stellantis is recalling more than 320,000 examples of the brand’s Grand Cherokee and Wrangler 4xe plug-in hybrid SUVs. The issue involves the high-voltage battery, which may fail and catch on fire.

Affected vehicles include model-year 2020-25 Wrangler 4xes and model-year 2022-26 Grand Cherokee 4xes. The batteries in the affected vehicles may contain cells with separator damage that, when combined with other complex interactions within the cells, can lead to a fire while the vehicle is parked or in motion. As of Oct. 13, Stellantis was aware of 10 fires originating from the batteries, 19 customer assistance records and one injury.

At this time, owners are advised to park outside and away from structures and to refrain from charging. Interim letters notifying owners of the issue are expected to be mailed Dec. 2; a second letter will be sent out once a remedy is available. Vehicles that were previously recalled in November 2023 and October 2024 will need the new remedy performed, as well.
